This area has a huge role in the history of Wales. This video showcases just a small part of the South Wales valleys, which we think are beautiful!
Mining in Wales has a strong tradition dating back centuries, and is an integral part of Welsh history. Those of us who can claim Welsh ancestry will almost certainly find mining as an occupation among our predecessors. We can research this for you.
North Wales tends to be associated with Slate Mining, while the hills of Mid-Wales have yielded gold, silver and lead at different times in the region’s history.
When Welsh mining is mentioned in conversation, however, it is likely that people think of the coal-mining valleys of South Wales.
The mines have been closed for decades, and the valleys are slowly being reclaimed by nature….and they are beautiful!
Our aim at Roots in Wales is to showcase this important part of Welsh history, through videography, photography and regular features as we continue our journeys throughout the nation
